Great jog if you a looking for new scenery. If you don’t like pavement this is a great jog for you too. I like to do about four miles on this trail two down two back. The trail is a lot longer than that but I only do the full thing when I’m biking. Comming back is the best part because of the great view of the lake. Also I think most of the time you are above the smog that lingers in Utah valley. It is an access road above the water pipe above Provo Canyon. Dirt road that turns into two tracks with some rocks. Some steep banks but the road is about 15’to25’ wide. It is hard to get lost as long as you stay on the trail. There are many small bike/hiking/horse trails that branch from this service road. Explore if you like but don’t get lost or think that bush whacking down the hill will get you to the highway or Provo River Trail down below.
The trail starts near the cemetery near the old Novell campus in Orem. The road raps around the backside of the cemetery on the hill on the NE side of the campus. Once you pass the big houses with the tacky swimming pool you will come up to an Equestrian Parking area, which is near the water processing facility. Park there and jog up past the water tanks and take the trail as far as you want. The trail is mostly flat after you jog up 150-200 feet the first 1/3mi.. I think the trail goes about four miles up canyon and ends a little but up from the entrance from Bridal Veil Falls. The last 1/2 of that drops like 400+ feet. Probably the steepest road I’ve ever ridden/wrecked my bike on. Half way down that steep road it levels off. There about 20-40’ from the road is the ruins from an old guard shack. Its just a pile of rubble with a little plaque.
Amazing view
Safety info: Be sure to tell someone where you are going. Last I remember you should be able to get good cell reception up there. I’ll see if I can get a photo if we ever get images setup on this site.
