Boca Pointe Early morning walk was refreshing after a long period of inactivity. Cool mist blanketed the golf courses reducing the sun to a white orb which gave an otherworldly appearance to the perfectly manicured landscapes of the surrounding developments. New shoes slipped at the heel and skin itched as I sweated lightly for the first time in awhile. 00:55:00.00 3.10 17:44 06/10/07
1.5 mile run along Charles R. Short run along the Charles R. after a long period of inactivity. The 20 degree weather sent the blood pounding in my ears, but otherwise my 3 top layers and two bottom kept me warm enough. The view of the frozen Charles was spectacular, but I turned back after I couldn’t feel the fingers on my right hand. Some confusion on completion of the run which a glass of milk and blueberry juice addressed nicely. 00:16:00.00 1.45 11:02 02/07/07
White Rock Lake, Dallas. My first run with Val! Warm weather (~80 degrees) made the effort more than expected but we maintained a nice steady clip along the massive lake lined with leafless oak trees and palatial mansions. Feet felt slightly pounded by concrete path. 00:30:00.00 3.00 10:00 03/05/06
Sheraton Hyannis Marathon w/ Natalie. Cold at 25 degress but spectacular run through quintessential New England sites past snow covered beaches, lighthouses, cedar shingled homes. David was our crew support and cheerleader. Natalie finished her first race ever! 02:17:09.00 13.10 10:28 02/26/06
Ran with Allison and Natalie through Brookline. Hills were slightly easier and I was able to run slowly up without stopping to walk. Run was broken in the middle by a stop at home where Nat was house/dog sitting. Rosie (cutie!) joined us for part of the run. 00:54:00.00 6.00 9:00 02/23/06
Riverway – Brookline. Warm enough that Natalie was soon running in her tank. Snow still lingered on the path, muddy in spots. Route took us past stone-bridge covered streams and an idyllic Jamaica Pond cracked with ice over which seagulls bleated under a clear blue sky. Effort of breathing with congestion was made easier by the tranquility of the scene and the happy banter. 00:00:00.00 8.15 0:00 02/16/06
Blue Hills Reservation trail run around Ponkapoag Lake. Lots of puddles kept the crew dashing and leaping but still could avoid the more than occasional step in the mud. Hill at end required some walking on my part which was disappointing but the venue was spectacular. Joined by Rachel and her husband. Ran with trail shoes – some rubbing on right big toe. 01:23:00.00 7.50 11:04 02/05/06
Charles River - footbridge rte Challenged by the 53 degree weather as I was slightly overdressed. Right big toe rubbed in trail shoe even after gel insole inserted. Some disorientation at end because of overheating. 00:43:00.00 4.37 9:50 02/03/06
Charles R - 3 mile loop Ran w/Natalie. Good run, able to maintain conversation without too much effort. Did long cool down walk around the block at end. 00:30:00.00 3.08 9:44 02/01/06
(Approx. distance). Route took us through Watertown to Fresh Pond and past Auburn Cemetery. Still struggling with hills. 01:15:00.00 7.50 10:00 01/28/06
(Approx. distance) Winding route through Brookline. Stopped at spectacular vista after struggling at hill. 00:40:00.00 4.00 10:00 01/26/06
3 mi Different experience running tired in the middle of the day. Ugh. 00:32:00.00 3.28 9:45 01/25/06
Charles River - 8.42 mi loop Amazing run in 55 degree weather. Breathing easier than ever and was able to summon effort at end for final spurt. Aware that I was running faster than I ever had for any significant distance. 01:14:00.00 8.42 8:47 01/21/06
Charles River - 3 mi loop Quite cold, but breathing even easier than before. Toes suffered a bit in the less warm, non-trail shoes, but my perceived exertion was higher than I can ever remember. Making progress. 00:34:00.00 3.78 8:59 01/16/06
Charles River - footbridge rte Confident run, very rhythmic breathing. Timing is precise. Other run of route may have been slightly estimated. Used trail shoes and unfortunately experienced some slippage of my feet inside shoes. Will try gel inserts which may tighten them up. 00:41:00.00 4.37 9:22 01/14/06
Charles River - 8 mi loop Unseasonably warm weather, but I was dressed appropriately – in shorts! Stopped the chrono for about 3 minutes to take a picture. Breathing without being conscious of breathing and experimented with faster paces. Felt a slight but short term pain on the outside of my left knee. No shin splint in right leg this time. Fabulous run. 01:12:00.00 7.99 9:00 01/12/06
Modified 3 mi Grapevine, TX route as I took an alternate route to avoid a dog. Distance is an estimate. 00:34:00.00 3.40 10:00 01/09/06
Grapevine, TX Run a bit more difficult than it should have been, but maintained steady pace nonetheless. Need to keep running! 00:30:06.00 3.27 9:12 01/07/06
Key Biscayne 4.5mi Stallone's Conversational run for Judy’s benefit. Nice to feel that my training has paid off and I’m the one not struggling. Route took us over bridge twice – surprisingly easy. Judy asked to walk twice. 00:53:00.00 4.51 11:45 01/02/06
Key Biscayne - 5 mi 82 degrees – HOT! Not a very energetic run as I was struggling with the heat. Lots of damage still present from Hurricane Wilma. 00:53:00.00 5.01 10:34 12/31/05
Charles R - 3 mile loop Comparatively warm weather – 50 degrees! First attempt at pushing it. Some pounding in the ears towards the last mile. Slowed pace a bit but picked up in last loop of Bay State to Store 24 on corner of Deerfield St. That juice smoothie is an amazing motivator. 00:28:00.00 3.08 9:05 12/29/05
Charles River - footbridge rte 00:41:00.00 4.37 9:22 12/28/05
Charles River - 8.42 mi loop Surprising not too difficult. Lost rhythm of breathing towards the end and had to slow. 01:20:00.00 8.42 9:30 12/22/05
Charles River - 5 mi loop 00:50:00.00 5.01 9:58 12/18/05

Charles River - 5 mi loop 00:54:00.00 5.01 10:46 12/12/05
First solo run at my own comfortable out-of-shape pace. 00:53:00.00 4.50 11:46 12/11/05
(Approx. time/distance) Run through Cambridge along Charles w/Allison and Natalie. Lots of pounding in the ears, difficult to talk – definitely not a conversational pace for me yet. 00:40:00.00 4.00 10:00 12/10/05
Tropical Park Turkey Trot – Miami, FL
(ran with Althea’s niece, slowed to her pace)
