Ran down 13 mile to Halsted and back. Tried to take it slow, but didn’t do a very good job. Ran hard, for me, I guess. Totally full stomach – totally humid, and Gu02 sucks. First 20 miler in a while. All trail, so my longest trail run. Wore the FF’s, popped S! Caps and drank Green Magma. Not horrible feeling most of the time, but the FiveFingers started to stumble a bit and my feet got super sore around 14. To the library and back – with Mae on a bike behind me. Cool down, ran to Borders and back, not logged here. First run since getting sick last week. I think I should keep it to streets to build a good mileage base for this year, trails keep hurting my hip. Heritage Park. Training run with Mae, so kept it pretty slow. We went off trails and ran through the woods. Trails are getting more solid, not as muddy. Spring is here – for now.

Dreadmill. 5 minute warm up at 10 minute pace. Upped it to a 7:30 pace for 2 miles thereafter, then cut it back to 8:30 pace for a mile. Got down to a 6:30 pace for 1/2 mile but couldn’t sustain. Bald Mountain double loop (north trails). Snowy and icy, so I cut it one mile short. I decided that running with no traction made it as difficult, if not more, than the 17 miler I had planned. Heritage Park Loop in reverse. Stopped for 5 minutest to fraternize with a family of nearly 10 deer. I ran into the middle of them, they stood still, stared at me, then continued eating. One seemed to try to communicate with me and kept inching closer. Very strange, but very great. I backed away with my back away from them, keeping eye contact. Run up to Pleasant Lake and back down. Got heckled (“yo fa**ot!”) by two teenagers in West Bloomfield. Plus a sarcastic ‘thumbs up’ from an obese lady driving by. Both within 30 seconds of one another. Interesting.
Great run otherwise. Felt strong pretty much up until the end, but did not push too hard as this is a ‘light week’ in preparation for next weekend’s 18 miler. Life is good.

13 and Farmington Roundtrip Nice, late post work run. Had to work until 9pm. Came home. Woofed a Clif Bar, tossed back water and out I went. Cut the run short because it’s late and I wanted to eat. Mae was cooking, too. And waiting for me to eat. Tried to run fast-ish. Maybe about 1 minute faster than last year’s average, which is not bad considering I’m 10 lbs heavier than my marathon weight. Didn’t do the entire 15 that the schedule called for, but I was on my feet for 2 hours which is ‘acceptable’ for those of us who live up here in the snow, says the plan. To Pleasant Lake Hot as hell outside, despite it being October. Nearly 90 degrees and pretty thick humidity – so I took one bottle of Accelerade and one bottle of water, both freezer-cooled for a bit before leaving. Sweat so much it stung my eyes, could barely keep up with wiping it away, but went for a quick dip in Pleasant Lake once I got there. Great run – and nice to run while it’s light out. 6 Mile Rectangle Early early morning. A bit hot and humid still, though I could see my breath. Still a ton of cars out, not quite what I’d hoped for nor expected. Trail Run through Heritage Park. Ran biggest loop twice, plus unofficial trails shooting off and back into loop. Very pretty, was disappointed I hadn’t gone there before. Downtown to Pleasant Lake Edited version of route. Did not eat anything prior, just coffee and Gu. Ate a banana at mile 10. Got dehydrated and got a bottle of water at mile 17. Felt full with a bit of stomach ache after drinking, but felt better, cooler. Ate tums (2 x flavored) with each shot of Gu, increased frequency after 2 hours. Was walking for 5 minutes every 50 minutes, upped it to 10 minute walks every 40 minutes, then every 1/2 hour. Worked fine, legs are great. Body’s in good shape, no diarrhea at all. Came home, poo was solid, took an ice bath, ate minimal junk food, ate breakfast. Feel great, just need to stretch. Oh yeah, walked the last mile. 04:22:09.00 20.00 13:06 09/22/07
Ran most of the way to Pleasant Lake, but shortened route so that I wasn’t running in the dark. Ran on empty stomach, but drank coffee and lemon water beforehand. A bit sour for the first 4/5 of the run, but tolerable. Felt fast – ate a salad for lunch, drank tea – only coffee in the morning. Did not drink throughout day like earlier this week. Quick nighttime run, 13 to Halsted and back. Saw a deer, almost got skunked, almost stepped on a toad. Very fatigued feeling, this seemed more difficult than the last one, which was 8 miles. Have been drinking too much coffee, napping after work and not eating as healthily as I should. Barely any salads or fresh foods in as long as I can remember. Downtown to West Bloomfield First 20 miler. Took it as slow as possible, with a 5 minute walking break every 50 minutes. Used that time to rehydrate and eat Gu and Clif Shot Bloks. Very very smooth for first 13 miles. Night fell and it was headlamp running for last 11 miles, which made things somewhat difficult in some areas. Ran with a full, 2qt camelback with Lime Accelerade and still ran out of fluids. Body could have gone further, but diarrhea and sore stomach set in at mile 14, and the last few miles were spent fighting it off. Had to walk more frequently after mile 14 (every 1/2 hour) and I had to completely walk the last 2.2 miles on account of the stomach. Body isn’t terribly sore today, day after. Ice bathed immediately after run, ate Can of Pringles and Diet Coke (1.5 bottles), as well as Pedialyte (2 bottles). 6 Mile Rectangle Headlamp running! Left at 9:15pm, returned home around 10:15. Walked last mile. Camelback filled with Lime Accelerade, completely drained 1qt by the time I returned. To Pleasant Lake Nice, slow run. Speedwalk up most hills, tried ‘as slow as possible while still considered running’. Came home non-fatigued. Ate chili over brown rice for lunch, plus a salad. During run, drank GU02 and had a Clif Gel/Shot thinger (GU ripoff).

Drove her car there, did the route running home. Route in reverse, essentially. Did a 1/2 mile cooldown walking up to 14 mile and back. First run with Solomon XA’s. Interesting to have new, sore muscles. Have been on New Balance since the beginning of time, basically. It was dark out 15 minutes into the run, and I couldn’t see the sidewalk by the time I got home. I hope that accounts for the slower pace. To Pleasant Lake Hit my record mile: 7:33, in first 2 miles. Walked about 30% of the route, but maintained 9 min miles or better when running. Met a new jogging partner, got chased by little kids who thought they could keep up, and got a new blister right where my missing toenail is. Perhaps the 992’s just aren’t for me.
