Where do USANA’s raw materials come from?

Posted by Alison on 14th December 2007

Due to company policy, we cannot disclose the names or locations of our raw material suppliers. However, we conduct numerous tests on both our raw materials and our finished products to ensure purity and safety.

Among other testing, we use HPLC, ICP-MS, FTIR and GLC for quality control purposes. We perform multiple testing and screening procedures to assure that our raw materials are not only pure, but also that they contain no unintentional compounds (pesticides, heavy metals, organic contaminants, manufacturing contaminants, etc).

Such testing is important because the raw ingredients that go into USANA products come from a variety of sources. Some are derived from plants. Our vitamin E, for example, is the natural form derived from soy. Other ingredients, such as vitamin B12 and CoQ10, are produced microbiologically in fermentation, then purified. Still other ingredients, such as chromium picolinate, are produced synthetically. The chromium is purified from a mined mineral and then chemically reacted to produce the picolinate form. Folic acid in supplements is nearly always synthetic because it is preferentially absorbed and utilized over natural food folates, which must go through several conversion processes to be utilized as folic acid.

But again, regardless of their source, all of the raw ingredients that go into USANA products are selected for effectiveness, purity, and safety. We use vitamin and mineral compounds in those chemical forms, whether “natural” or “synthetic”, that are best absorbed and utilized by the body, and we purchase those materials with the highest standards for quality.

Can USANA make product recommendations for specific medical conditions?

Posted by Alison on 14th December 2007

We are committed to providing you with current scientific information regarding the composition, manufacture, and use of USANA’s products, and with up-to-date information regarding the role of nutrition in health.

We strongly believe that the consistent use of high quality nutritional supplements may play a role in the prevention of certain chronic degenerative diseases. However, there are a few cases where nutritional supplements may not be appropriate.

In these instances we are unable to provide you with medical and medication advice. Instead, we urge you to seek the guidance of your physician, pharmacist, or other health care professional. These health care professionals know your medical and medication history and have the training and expertise to help you make an informed medical decision.

We further recommend that, as a basis for such discussions, you provide copies of labels describing the contents of the USANA products in question. This will better enable your health care provider to determine which USANA products may be appropriate for you.

How do I determine which USANA products are right for me?

Posted by dave on 14th December 2007

USANA understands that each of us has a unique health profile and thus unique nutritional needs. Part of a lifelong program of good nutrition is recognizing that we all have different nutritional needs, and that our needs change as we move from one stage of life to the next. For each one of us, a unique combination of age, sex, lifestyle, and other considerations demand a nutritional program that is both flexible and customized. USANA Nutritionals comprise both the Essentials and the Optimizers to successfully meet this challenge. The Essentials products provide the foundation of USANA’s Nutritional system. The Optimizers allow you to customize a nutritional system for your individual needs. By using the following two-step process, you can create a complete nutritional program to fit those needs.
First, choose between the Usanimals for children, Body Rox for teens, or regular Essentials for adults.

Next, choose the Optimizers that suit your individual needs. Optimizers are grouped by label color in categories according to their primary benefits. You will find Optimizers that support cardiovascular health, skeletal/structural health, immune health, and more.

The graphs found in your Product Information booklet are designed to help you customize your USANA Nutritional regimen based on your personal characteristics (i.e. age group and sex). Each product description page includes a similar bar graph above the Product Title.
