Default new runner, breathing problems - 11-17-2007, 08:06 AM

I've been running off and on for a couple years now. Nothing intense, but I love the way it makes my body feel when I've finished a run. My question however.. during the chilly months I find it hard to breathe. Is there anything out there that can make the chilly air less harsh on my nose, throat and lungs? Also, being able to breathe properly can be difficult for me. I find myself having a long coughing fit after my run. Almost that of a smoker, but I have not smoked 1 day in my life. My lungs are rather out of shape. My body doesn't give in to make me want to stop.. my breathing causes me to want to stop. I can't seem to get enough intake into my body. Any advice? It leads me to walk/jog and I would really love to just be able to accomplish 2-4 miles at a time without really stopping too much. I tried running inside during the chillier months on a treadmill but I get so bored that I stop. I live in Florida so chilly isn't in the 20's or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you.
