Default Which training plan do you follow? - 12-15-2006, 03:28 PM

According to the common race distances that is...5K, 10K, 15K. Half, Full? Do you follow a method of periodization? Do you do anaerobic threshold training?

yes, to each question. I find that a periodized approach that emphasizes a strong aerobic base is the most effective for producing the best possible performances

Doing any significant running at an anaerobic effort during the base mileage aerobic development phase would be a mistake

yes, but that is is not what I was trying to convey. The name of each phase signifies that the focus in those phases is on that type of running, e.g. hills in hill phase, but you don't have to only do that type of running in that phase, e.g. if you're in the speed phase and you run 6 times in a week, each of those workouts does not have to be a "speed" workout.

You are gaining some of the benefits but doing hill repeats specifically will overload your muscles much differently than simply running on hills every day. While running on hills frequently is a very good thing, it does not take the place of specifically doing hill repeats.
