Angry heart rate - 06-27-2007, 06:02 PM

when i start to run or just a simple jog my heart rate goes through the roof and i almost pass out and it isnt that i start out in a sprint... i warm up but as soon as i try to do anything faster than a peepy walk it skyrockets and i almost pass out and it feels like im having a heart attack ... i have watched it shoot up to almost 200.. can anyone offer any advice on how i can start running or even jog and not die from an exploded heart or pass out on the side of the street somewhere??? thanks

The heart is not something to mess with. I would suggest talking to your doctor before you start running.

I agree with chloebug - talk to your doctor.

He will probably put you on a program of extended walking to start out with. You will probably want to do a run/walk program where you walk for 9.5 minutes and then run for 30 seconds and repeat, gradually changing the ratios until you can run more.

You need to build up a base level of aerobic fitness before you start trying to run very far or very fast. Talk to your doctor, who will know enough about your individual circumstances to offer some good advice.
