I worked really hard for the Louisville half marathon. I took 6th. Drove from Cleveland. I sent the director a nice, polite email saying I could not stay I had to be back for a family dinner. Here was his email back to me. I have talked to most people, and most agree he should ship the medal/trophy. There was nothing in the guidelines that suggest you had to be present. I have been at races where it does say that. Just disappointed.
His email back to me:

Justin, this is not my race, it is your race. You drove 12 hours to run a marathon, apparently for no reason other than the opportunity to win a cheap trophy. Then you left without picking it up, just assuming I would use more of my time to ship it to you? You know very well races do not ship trophies - nobody does.
Nonetheless, send me a shipping label for a two-pound box, and I will ship it to you, as I have nothing more important to do with MY TIME than to ship you YOUR trophy that was so unimportant to YOU that you couldn't stick around for it, but chose to waste more of my time, after having already put forth hundreds of hours of MY TIME (without compensation) for YOUR RACE..... Your "principles" seem rather selective and rather warped.
