Default Base Layer question - 12-12-2006, 07:21 PM

I have been looking at different items of running gear on the net. Would someone tell me what a base layer is and what purpose it serves ?

The base layer is usually man made fibre draws sweat away from the body and allows the moisture to evaporate rather than turning into a puddle of sweat. In colder weather more layers are added, the second insulating layer is usually something fleecy, with the outer water/wind proof layer atop that. Do not run in cotton T shirt, you will finish your run soaked and your t shirt will be heavy!
