I just wonder, does a new chain make your bike faster?

A new chain is usually better lubricated than an old, forgotten, rusted-out number. With some time and effort you can get your old chain (and casette) looking shiny and new.

But, to answer your question. Probably. Yes. If you have neglected your chain I would guess you will experience a noticable difference in speed.
