USANA NUTRITION

Diet. The word alone may cause you to wince. The RESET Games: 12-Week Lifestyle Challenge isn’t about fad diets, and it’s not about an eternity of celery sticks. It’s about making smart, healthy choices to help you reset your life and find the real you.

One thing that will help you in your quest for better eating is the introduction of low-glycemic meals. Food that contains high-glycemic levels (such as orange juice, white bread, and certain breakfast cereals) may force your blood glucose to spike temporarily and then decrease again, causing you to be hungry sooner. Low-glycemic foods (such as USANA Nutrimeal™ drink mix, lean meats, and non-starchy vegetables) take longer to digest and keep your blood glucose levels more stable than high-glycemic foods, which can help in cutting back snack cravings between meals.

Low-glycemic products like USANA Nutrimeal are a great way to retain healthy blood glucose levels provided they are healthy to begin with.

Of course, low-glycemic foods are just a small part of eating right. Here are a few tips to make healthy eating a little easier:
  • Make a list of meals for the following week before going to the grocery store. Not only will it be easier to decide what to make for dinner if you have a few menu items already listed, but it helps cut down ‘impulse’ shopping and can potentially save you money on your grocery bill!
  • Carry healthy snacks with you, and make sure they’re already separated into single servings. That way, you can still snack when you’re hungry without overeating or reaching for something unhealthy.
  • Keep a food journal, and be sure to write down EVERYTHING you put into your mouth. Keep track of what time you eat, what and how much you eat, and the amount of calories. Even if you only do it for a week, you may be surprised by what and how much you’re eating. This is also a great way to count calories!
  • Be kind to yourself! Reward yourself for eating well and achieving small goals—but don’t use unhealthy food as a reward. Get a haircut…a manicure…go shopping…play a round of golf. But for heaven’s sake, put down that tub of mint chocolate chip!
  • Build a support system of people who will help you eat right. Family, friends, and co-workers can be great at this, especially when they decide to eat healthfully too!
  • Set realistic, achievable goals. That doesn’t mean a goal has to be simple—challenge yourself, but don’t make it unobtainable.
  • Eat regularly! You have to eat to lose weight. Rather than one or two big meals a day, try five or six smaller meals every few hours. Regular eating will keep your metabolism working, which in turn can help burn fat.
